Going to russia but i'm scared =/?

So Ive paid money already and am signed up for a month-long study abroad program this summer in Russia! i'm excited but otherwise i'm really scared... I just got finished reading all these news articles about violent racism in russia, particularly in moscow and st. pete's. (I'll be in Moscow and i'll be spending 3-4 days in St. Petes). I'm mixed race black/Spanish but i look 100% black... i'm so scared, will i be safe? i'll be traveling with a group mostly the whole time (of other students, mostly white) but still, i'm so nervous. I know i could just cancel the trip, but i've been studying russian for years and am almost fluent and want SO badly to go there at least once... :(
